History

Lords Valley's first resident was Levi Lord in 1810, after Dr. Philip P. Monington advertised property available for development. Levi Lord and eleven friends purchased the property. Levi Lord built this house brick hotel with his sons, circa 1850, on the then Dingman Choice Turnpike (now route 739). The building, which was also a post office from 1953 - 1955, is owned by the Glen Eyre Corp. and is listed on the National Historical Register. The names of the other purchasers of the area property were Levi's friends, Joseph Brooks, Robert Hatton, Samuel Hunt, Wilson Croft, William Whittaker, John Whittaker, Thomas Harselden, Robert Ogden, Abram Johnson, James Powers and William Manly. They all came from England on the same ship in 1809.

Hemlock Farms

Hemlock Farms is a 4,500-acre (18 km2) private gated community adjacent to Pecks Pond and between Pennsylvania State Routes 402 and 739. It is the largest community within Lords Valley. Begun in 1963 by Home Smith International, it consists of 3,726 building lots, 97 of which are owned by HFCA. Individual property owners now own 95 percent of the lots on which more than 3,000 homes have been constructed, with roughly 1,000 occupied on a permanent basis, and the rest by weekend or summer residents.

The Second Restated Declaration of Protected Covenants, Restrictions and Easements for Hemlock Farms allow only one-family residences to be constructed. All property owners are members of the Hemlock Farms Community Association (HFCA), which is incorporated as a nonprofit corporation, and which holds title to the roads, lakes, ponds, green belt and other common areas within the community.

The HFCA maintains four lakes, with four beach areas with bathhouses. Docks and boat racks are available at five locations and are rented to members. There are two outdoor swimming pools with bathhouses, ten tennis courts, two baseball fields, two basketball courts, a volleyball court, two bocce courts, a children’s playground and a Teen Center. The major facility is a Community Clubhouse, which features an indoor pool, sauna, steam room, kiddy pool, Jacuzzi, locker rooms, fitness center, arts and craft rooms, game room and an auditorium/theater.

Additionally, the community contains Lords Valley Country Club, a private club offering golf, tennis, swimming, and dining facilities to its members. The par 72 golf course was designed by Norman H. Woods and receives a 71.2 rating (from the championship tees).[1]

Lords Valley Cemetery

The former house of Levi Lord, now known as the "The Lords House" is also the site of the Lords Valley Cemetery. Located on Rte. 739 (right side of house) and Blooming Grove Turnpike, with the 84 Lumber Co. just across the street, and Pike Co. Concrete Co., on the opposite corner. To be buried in the cemetery the deceased must have been a lifelong resident of Lords Valley.
